Brief Profile

Graduated in Chemistry from Arul Anandar College, Madurai Kamaraj University, Madurai, Tamil Nadu. Postgraduate and Master of Philosophy degrees in Biochemistry from Annamalai University, Tamil Nadu. Joined 1999, at National Institute of Nutrition (ICMR) for doctoral studies under the guidance of Dr.A.Vajreswari and received Doctor of Philosophy in Biochemistry from Osmania University, Hyderabad in 2005. After worked as a Post-Doctoral Fellow for a year, joined the institute as Scientist ‘B’ in February 2006, and currently holding the position of Scientist “D”. Our lab mainly worksin the area of disease biology, nutritional biochemistry and molecular nutrition, involving human subjects, experimental (both genetic and diet-induced) and in vitro cell line models.

Our primary research focus is to understand the role of dietary nutrients and factors on the development and prevention or management of non-communicable diseases, particularly, obesity, insulin resistance and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Besides, we actively engaged in understanding the sexual dimorphism of adipose tissue development and its associated complications. Further, our current research focuses on identifying nutraceuticals from vegetables and fruits for its anti-adipogenic and insulin-sensitizing properties.Our research programs are being supported by ICMR, DBT and other government agencies.
