Dr. Sai Ram Challa completed MD in Community Medicine from Osmania Medical College, Hyderabad (2004). He worked on hypertension control among geriatric populations in urban slums of Hyderabad and state coverage evaluation of child vaccination program by UNICEF. He then worked as Surveillance Medical Officer for World Health Organization (WHO) for three years in North Telangana Districts and Bihar, where he was involved in Acute Flaccid Paralysis surveillance, Measles outbreak investigations, Mass Immunization campaigns, and Routine Immunization strengthening. Identifying a Type 1 Wild Polio Virus Circulation in a remote border village of Raxaul, Champaran East, Bihar, was a significant contribution. Further, he worked at Apollo Institute of Medical Sciences, Hyderabad, for nine years as Professor of Community Medicine, Medical Officer, Rural and Urban Health Training Centres. Here, he contributed actively to the District MR (Measles-Rubella) Coverage evaluation in collaboration with UNICEF, served as Medical Officer of COVID Isolation Ward and Secretory, Research Committee. His research work focussed on public health aspects of Surveillance, Malnutrition, Acute Respiratory Tract Infections, Tuberculosis, m-Health, Hypertension, and Stroke. He is currently pursuing research in nutritional interventions through Primary Health Care, Social determinants of malnutrition, TB malnutrition, and Interplay of malnutrition, infectious disease, and non-communicable disease in communities.
